Job Summary: Petroleum Service Corporation, an SGS Company is the leader in the petrochemical material handling industry, is growing and looking for individuals to join our team at a chemical plant in Mont Belvieu, Texas. These LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) Rail Loader, Rail Switchman and Locomotive Operator positions are regular full-time (not temporary) positions with opportunities for cross-training, career growth, and advancement. Experience is not always required (we provide on-the-job training). These positions work in an industrial environment and are responsible for safely operating the locomotive to move railcars in and around the plant yard and for loading/unloading liquid LPG into and out of railcars. Work Schedule: 12 hour rotating shift. (Days/Nights/Weekends/Holidays)














Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Rail Switching and Locomotive Operations:

  • Examines track list in order to determine which cars are to be spotted, loaded, and/or shipped.
  • Proceeds to the designated track(s) in order to separate cars to be shipped, loaded as well as to ensure that there is proper track space available for inbound cars.
  • Separates inbound railcars and spots for loading/discharge.
  • Operates the track mobile to spot any other railcars that may be designated for loading/discharge.
  • Pulls loaded railcars and separates railcars that will be shipped from those that have been preloaded.
  • Checks outbound railcars in order to ensure that all railcars are properly connected.
  • Weighs all inbound and outbound loads and empties.
  • Completes any other duties that may be assigned in order to complete the job

Rail Loading Operations:

  • Matches loading schedule to bill of lading.
  • Weighs railcar in prior to product transfer.
  • Fills out loading record.
  • Ensures that railcar is positioned and secured at proper loading rack.
  • Visually inspects the railcar to be involved in the upcoming transfer in order to ensure that it is mechanically sound and there is no defective equipment before loading or unloading.
  • Wears all protective clothing and equipment, including respirator and fresh air equipment that may be required to transfer the product in a manner that ensures maximum personal safety.
  • Connects loading arm/hose.
  • Checks vessel for last product contained.
  • Loads railcar according to loading instructions using gauges and/or strapping tables.
  • Ensures that outages or innages do not exceed Department of Transportation (DOT) certification for the particular vessel being loaded.
  • Checks weight of railcar after loading to ensure that gross weight does not exceed regulations.
  • Communicates with facility supervisor on any problems as they occur.
  • Disconnects loading arm/hose, inspect for any leaks and complete required paperwork prior to releasing the railcar.

Job Qualifications:

  • 6 months + experience working around railroad or loading operations.
  • 1 or more years’ experience in a chemical plant, industrial or manufacturing work environment.
  • 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
  • Stable work history with good references from past employers.
  • Pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
  • Speak fluent English.
  • PSC is a veteran-friendly company. Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the ability to speak, write, read, hear and have good vision. Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold. Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction and pass any medical examination associated with the use of said PPE. The physical requirements for a loader/switchman include the following: Lift 50 pounds floor to waist, push and pull 50 pounds horizontally, carry 20 pounds while walking, walk 3-10 miles per day, stand 4-8 hours per day, climb stairs, climb ladders, extend arms through normal range of motion while standing and squatting, support oneself on a ladder with two feet and one arm extended for up to 5 minutes.
