Description

Job Title: Process and Controls Engineer – Greenfield Facility (64E)

Department/Job Function: Operations

Primary Responsibilities: The role will initially start with the development of plans, systems, and procedures to meet the core objectives of facility operations as well as process control support during development, installation and start up. Ultimately, the Controls Engineer provides technical and operational expertise for the day-to-day support of Chemical Plant process control systems and infrastructure as well as process monitoring, optimizing and troubleshooting. Primary responsibilities include supporting TCP/IP-based networks, Microsoft Windows servers, Microsoft Windows domain infrastructures and Honeywell Process Control Systems. Additional duties include monitoring system and network performance, ensuring compliance with network and domain security standards, and maintaining accurate systems documentation. Also, working with operations department to implement control strategies for new process equipment, modifying/enhancing controls on existing process equipment and working with maintenance personnel and operations to identify and resolve problems with process equipment in order to allow the process to operate within specified limits.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the design and implementation of the systems and/or solutions in assigned work scope, fully in line with Honeywell and site standards, design rules and guidelines.
  • Executes work assignment to appropriate standards and quality systems (Implementation, Test & Documentation).
  • Shares technical knowledge with project team, supervisor, own discipline and other engineering disciplines.
  • Produces functional and detailed design specifications.
  • Reports progress and technical problems and/or changes to Management.
  • Monitor control system performance, which includes loop analysis and tuning.
  • Support process problem solving by identifying sources of process upsets and other anomalies.
  • Continually improving the effectiveness of existing base and advanced control systems, operator interfaces, and troubleshooting systems and documentation.
  • Monitor chemical processing plant daily and provide suggestions for optimization and improved performance.
  • Troubleshoot abnormalities in the process and provide solutions to resolve.

Skills/Qualifications:

Required:

  • Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience. Degree in IT, Computer Science or Computer Engineering would be considered if accompanied by significant plant experience as a Process Control engineer.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a DCS process controls engineer with configuration experience.
  • Experience with instrumentation and electrical systems associated with process control systems.
  • Knowledge of third-party IO systems (Profibus, Modbus, etc.) highly preferred.
  • PLC functional knowledge, preferably Allen Bradley as they interface with the DCS.
  • Excellent computer skills – particularly Microsoft including Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, Power point.

Preferred:

  • 7 years experience in a hydrocarbon/chemical processing facility preferred.
  • Knowledge of DCS control strategies and the ability to design controls from process narratives or other site documentation a requirement. This is assumed to have been done on a modern (non-proprietary) DCS platform released in the last 10 years.
  • In depth knowledge and experience with Windows Servers and Domain Controllers as a basis for modern DCS delivery.
  • Knowledge of networking and basic network configuration a plus.
  • In-depth of knowledge of Honeywell Experion® system and CP300 controls.
  • Chemical Processes and Engineering Experience.
  • Electrical Systems and Engineering Experience.
  • PLC and/or drives experience, particularly Allen Bradley.
  • PSM High Hazard Process or OSHA 1910.119 knowledge and skills.
  • HTML Graphics.

Minimum Job Requirements: 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.; stable work history with good references from past employers; pass a drug screen, physical, and background check; and speak fluent English.
