Job Summary: Petroleum Service Corporation is seeking a Rail Wash Rack Operator / Switchman to join our team at a brand new, state-of-the-art chemical plant that manufactures polyethylene in Sweeny / Old Ocean, Tx. This position will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an automated wash system to clean hopper railcars and work with the locomotive engineer on the train to safely move railcars in, out and around the rail area of the chemical plant. Experience is a plus but not required, and paid on-the-job training is available. This is a full-time position with potential advancement opportunities. Work Schedule: 12 hour rotating shift (Days/Nights/Weekends/Holidays)

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Examines track list in order to determine which railcars are to be spotted and / or shipped in the wash rack unit
  • Verifies track is clear of all technicians, equipment, and de-railers before moving railcars
  • Operates the locomotive and / or conducts switching movements on the ground to spot up the railcars in the wash rack unit
  • Ensures that all railcars which have been spotted are properly secured by means of setting the brake
  • Opens and inspects all railcar hatches for excessive polyethylene and if needed, applies ribbons and communicates any findings
  • Installs automated wash heads at the top of the railcar and lowers heads with air hoist
  • Monitors the water tank and trench levels prior to and during the wash cycle
  • Inspects tubes on cars for pellets, excessive water or other contaminates
  • Adjusts valves to ensure no contaminates remain, if necessary, rinses tubes with water / blow with air
  • Inspects railcars for cleanliness and lining inspection, removes debris from ends of railcars
  • Inspects all railcars to assure bottom outlets and seal hatches are closed and secured
  • Weighs all inbound and outbound railcars
  • Verifies all clean railcars are properly connected for outbound movement prior to shipping to the loading department
  • Completes documentation of railcars washed or rejected on hopper car wash report
  • Performs any required railcar maintenance and document all repairs
  • Maintains inventory of parts for hopper railcars
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by participating in all housekeeping activities
  • Any other duties that may be assigned in order to complete the assigned task.
Job Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working around rail or switching operations is a plus, but not required
  • Prior experience working in a chemical plant, industrial or manufacturing work environment is a plus, but not required
  • Must be able to follow OSHA safety standards and be safety conscious at all times
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License
  • 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
  • Stable work history with good references from past employers
  • Pass a drug screen, physical, and background check
  • Speak fluent English
  • PSC is a veteran-friendly company. Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
You must be able to:
  • Speak, write, read, hear, and have good vision
  • Work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction and pass any medical examination associated with the use of PPE
  • Lift 50 pounds floor to waist
  • Push and pull 50 pounds horizontally
  • Carry 20 pounds while walking
  • Walk 3-10 miles per day
  • Stand 4-8 hours per day
  • Climb stairs and ladders
  • Support oneself on a ladder with two feet and one arm extended for up to five minutes
  • Extend arms through normal range of motion while standing and squatting
