Primary Responsibilities: The function of the Rail Coordinator (RC) will be to coordinate daily rail shipments and activities for the NAFTA region. This position supports approximately 60 associates in various areas, 5 Production Units, and 13 distribution sites. Involves approximately 600+ customer ship to accounts, approximately 20,000+ orders/shipments annually, 600+ active product codes, an average of 10 railcar shipments daily; and an estimated 2500+ railcars annually

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate rail car shipments to customers in the United States, Canada and Mexico originating from Geismar production units and 3rd party locations.
  • Process the following:
    • Outbound daily rail car shipments
    • Order empty inbound railcars to meet loading demands while maintaining a safe car count on site for efficient rail switching
    • Railroad billing of rail cars using GeoMetrix and railroad network systems
  • Build and deliver daily switch list to production and the mainline railroad
  • Maintain:
    • Daily rail yard track list / railcar spotting to coordinate railcar logistics movements onsite
    • Daily yard map in GeoMetrix
    • Loading check sheets
    • Daily switch fee cost
    • Daily rail car empty report
    • Daily GeoMetrix flag systems identifying rail cars, tracks, and maintenance service issues
    • Safe rail car count on-site for efficient rail switching.
  • Monitor railcar shipping forecast to ensure shipments are fulfilled as scheduled.
  • Assist with SAP delivery creation, order changes, LOSCH (loaded on-site change) issues, and special order requests.
  • Tracking rail car shipments as needed.
  • Liaise with the handling railroads for rail transportation issues.
  • Compiling monthly rail road inventory closing report.
  • Balancing car count across mainline RR Holding Yard, the Geismar site, and long-term storage locations to allow for flexibility and efficiency in car movements as well as optimal cost structure.
  • Daily communications with Production Unit Planners, Sr. Rail Shipping Coordinator, loading area operations, Railcar Maintenance Contractor, and local mainline Railroad operations in regards to daily inbound / outbound railcar shipments.
  • Liaison with customers, Customer Service, Production, the mainline, and Maintenance crews to ensure all shipments are processed properly for daily inbound / outbound shipments.
  • Responsible for exploring/implementing opportunities and assisting with special project needs

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Possess a basic knowledge of railroad operations and with a rail operations database to process and ship rail.
  • Experience with loading and unloading of rail cars will be useful in understanding rail network systems.
  • Must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, and Power Point) and Lotus Notes. Experience working in SAP is preferred.
  • Possess excellent skills including: verbal and written communication skills, organization and planning skills, multi-tasking skills, and time management skills.
  • Must be flexible, adaptable to change, responsive, and have a positive attitude.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and enjoy problem solving.
  • Perform assigned functions accurately and efficiently.
Minimum Job Requirements: 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.; stable work history with good references from past employers; pass a drug screen, physical, and background check; and speak fluent English.
