Job Summary:  This is a new opening due to our recent company growth!  The Payroll Specialist will join our team in the SGS PSC corporate office located in downtown Baton Rouge.  The position is responsible for ensuring accurate processing and recording of employee payroll, providing timely and accurate financial information, and issuing checks.  The team is comprised of five Payroll Specialists who process payroll for several sites and approximately 800 employees each.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Determines payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience working in payroll processing is preferred.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office; strong knowledge and experience with Excel is required.
  • Experience with ADP and Kronos is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines on a consistent basis.
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
