Job Title:  Railroad Track Maintenance Technician
 
Business Unit:  SGS Petroleum Service Corporation (PSC)

Hourly or Salary:  Hourly
 
Primary Responsibilities:  Maintains the track infrastructure, including constructing, inspecting, and repairing track. 
 
Reporting to:  Plant Supervisor, SGS PSC
 
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Repair and rebuild railroad track, using power and non-power hand tools as necessary.
  • Lift and carry track material.
  • Maintenance will be performed by pulling spikes from ties, drilling holes through rails for insertion of bolts, and fastening tighten or loosen bolts.
  • Remove and replace ballast, operate large non-powered hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, cutters, and sledgehammers, and operate proper electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic hand tools such as drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders.
  • Assists with re-railing of derailed railcars.
  • Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action.
Skills/Qualifications:
Must posses a valid driver's license.  Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
 
Physical duties require frequent walking over extended areas with uneven footing; flexibility sufficient for track maintenance tasks such as flexing to pick up tie plates; balance sufficient to walk on ballast; standing for long periods of time with periodic breaks. 
 
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear and have a good vision. Ability to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold.
