Job Title:  "Relief" Pilot - Helen G. Fleet Boat
 
Business Unit:  SGS Petroleum Service Corporation
 
Department:  Operations
 
Primary Responsibilities:   To work only on an "as needed basis" to ensure the safe operation of the boat and its crew members in accordance with guidelines set by SGS Petroleum Service Corporation, American Styrenics, and the U.S. Coast Guard
 
Reporting to:  SGS Operations Manger
 
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Maintain communication with AmSty scheduler or shift supervisor and coordinate daily fleeting functions
  • Maintain a current fleet picture of all barges in fleet
  • Maintain current time sheets for all employees
  • Responsible for seeing that the proper personnel are notified in the event of a spill, product release, or injury.
  • Responsible for the training of deckhands and ensuring that the proper documentation, such as training plans, are current.
  • Responsible for the performance of deck hands and informs the captain of any disciplinary actions taken
  • Maintain daily logs and documentation
  • Walking and checking fleet at least 2-3 times per shift
  • Maintain inventory of lines and cables and ensure that they remain with the fleet
  • Share responsibility of preventative maintenance to main engines and generators, as well as the sewage treatment plant, winches, and hydraulic system
  • Assisting and monitoring housekeeping on the exterior of the Helen G boat, including the washing of the boat, as well as chipping and painting
  • Responsible for the content of shift safety meetings and any regulatory drills
  • Ensure that proper housekeeping is maintained in all areas
  • Responsible for seeing that safety inspections are conducted and corrective action is taken if needed
  • Ensure that the guidelines of the Homeland Security Plan are not violated
 
Skills/Qualifications:
Must have a current USCG Western Inland License and have a current Radar Endorsement. Ability to lift up to 100lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20lbs. of force constantly to move objects.  Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.  Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift grasp, talk, hear and have good vision.  Ability to work outside in environmental conditions which at times including extreme heat or extreme cold.
