Job Title:  Operational Field Leader

Primary Responsibilities:  Assists the business unit in achieving Operational Excellence by implementing operational and safety practices that meet or exceed industry expectations and guidelines for no harm to people, to the environment, or to company property.  Provides support to Operations Managers, Supervisors, and Safety and Training Coordinators through site visits, coaching and observations. Supports work sites in regular monthly safety trainings and supplemental field training on various topics.
 
Reporting to:  VP Operational Excellence
 
Specific Responsibilities:
 
  • Provides operational expertise to front line employees in approximately 20 different work sites
  • Significant portion of time in the field performing observations, procedure use assessments, one-on-one coaching, education on identifying hazards and continuously improving participation in the Hazard Recognition program
  • Work with local supervisors and regional operations managers in the development of action plans to make improvements on results of observations
  • Identify trends and communicate improvement plans in a manner that improves performance across the entire company
  • Works with operations management to ensure SGS meets customer and site requirements
  • Ensures that training is being conducted in alignment with SGS and customer’s best practices including auditing of records and informal participation in employee qualification process.
  • Clearly communicates goals around operating performance and ensures they are understood.
  • Supports site leaders/supervisors with performance problems and help establish effective corrective actions.
  • Stops any job that is considered unsafe
  • Intervenes when an unsafe act or condition is observed
  • Participates in Accident Investigations where appropriate
  • Establishes and maintains a comfortable and desired relationship with customer safety contacts and  medical service providers to remain updated on relevant information
  • Approximately 2 days of travel is required every other week to support sites outside of the greater Houston area.
     
Skills/Qualifications:
 
  • 5+ years of Supervisory/Management experience preferred
  • Operational leadership experience in an industrial environment (rail car switching and/or product handling experience preferred)
  • Possess excellent communication (written / verbal) skills necessary to carry out the tasks
  • Possess good computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • High School diploma or equivalent
