Instrument and Electrical Commissioning Technician


Job Summary: SGS Petroleum Service Corporation is growing and looking for individuals to join our team at the brand new petrochemical manufacturing facility in Baytown, Texas. This role will be directly involved with the commissioning and maintainence of the electrical and instrumentation for the plant. This is a regular full-time (not temporary) position with an opportunity for career growth and advancement. Primary Responsibilities: Act as a technical resource within a cohesive team environment at a petrochemical manufacturing facility. The role will initially start with the development of plans, systems, and procedures to meet the core objectives of facility operations. Ultimately the individual will play an integral role within the Maintenance Department as an electrical and instrumentation specialist by ensuring proper operation, installation, and continuous improvement of all things electrical and instrumentation related.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Review, understand, and redline electrical & instrumentation documents including but not limited to ladder diagrams, motor controls, and P&ID’s.
  • Install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and create/update documentation on electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Operate electrical test equipment including but not limited to digital multi-meters and meggers.
  • Participate in Lock Out Tag Out activities.
  • Adhere to site permitting requirements.
  • Operate within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (eMaint). Create WO’s, update job status, pull parts from stock, and give detailed project closeout descriptions.
  • Utilize HART communicators, Smart Line transmitters, and working with the Honeywell Field Devise Manager through the DCS.
  • Partake in regularly scheduled Plant, Maintenance, and Safety meetings.
  • Work safely keeping your own and others personal wellbeing in mind at all times.
  • Provide support and input to peers on the team.
  • Share information/best practices/lessons learned with peers and supervision.
  • Seek input and collaboration on difficult issues and problems.
  • Participate in any appropriate cross functional teams.
  • Embrace Process Safety Management and the Management of Change concept.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience in the petrochemical industry.
  • NCCER, Journeyman, or equivalent electrical certification.
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems. Also having development experience is preferred.
  • Experience in relevant technical aspects including PSM compliance, DOT pipeline maintenance, liquefied gas storage, facility maintenance and basic chemical manufacturing processes are preferred.
  • Experience / familiarity with full array of permit requirements associated with petrochemical plant operation.
  • Has experience with Computer Maintenance Management Systems.
  • VFD experience.
  • PLC Functional knowledge, preferably Allen Bradley.
  • Experience with fiber is preferred.
  • Possess strong communication (written / verbal) skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Skills/Qualifications: Must have the ability to speak, write, read, hear and have good vision. Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold. Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction and pass any medical examination associated with the use of said PPE. The physical requirements include the following: Lift 50 pounds floor to waist, push and pull 50 pounds horizontally, carry 20 pounds while walking, climb stairs, climb ladders, extend arms through normal range of motion while standing and squatting.

Minimum Job Requirements: 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.; stable work history with good references from past employers; pass a drug screen, physical, and background check; and speak fluent English.
