Job Summary: SGS Petroleum Service Corporation, the leader in the petrochemical material handling industry, is growing and looking for individuals to join our team at a brand new, state-of-the-art chemical plant / packaging facility in the Baytown, Texas area. These Shipping Preparation Technicians are regular full-time (not temporary) positions with opportunities for cross-training, career growth, and advancement. No experience in a chemical plant required (we pay for on-the-job training). Pay:  $14 - $15/hour depending on experience.

Work Schedule:  12-hour rotating shifts with every other weekend off (includes days, nights, weekend, and occasional holidays, with built-in overtime).

Job Description:  Work in a storage yard removing outer hood (covering) from pallets before loading shipping containers. Ensure and maintain a clean work environment by routinely sweeping and removing plastic pellets off of the packaging warehouse floor. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for handling finished product.
  • Removes outer hood of stacks just before loading from storage locations to loading islands.
  • Verifies lot numbers and pallet counts before loads or stacks go into containers and trailers.
  • Performs quality control activities.
  • Performs scrap and exception handling.
  • Performs repair of broken stacks.
  • Bin verification/ bin audits.
  • Ensures clean work space and performs housekeeping activities.
  • Responsible for identifying and eliminating potential slip hazards within the facility by sweeping plastic pellets.
  • Conduct periodic checks of forklift as per the checklist provided.
  • Collects empty liners for recycling.
  • Prepares containers with inner liners.
  • Supports pallet recovery and repair.
  • Supports maintenance work.

Skills/Qualifications: Must have the ability to speak, write, read, hear and have good vision. Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold. The physical requirements for a material handler include the following: Lift 60 pounds floor to waist, push and pull 30 pounds horizontally, carry 20 pounds while walking, climb stairs, stand 8-12 hours per day, climb ladders, extend arms through normal range of motion while standing and squatting

Minimum Job Requirements: Driver's license required; 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.; stable work history with good references from past employers; pass a drug screen, physical, and background check; and speak fluent English.
