Pipeline Process Operator

Job Summary: The Pipeline Process Operator is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the customer’s tank farm and pipeline operations.  This position operates at two facilities between East Fairview, ND to Alexander, ND and connects crude oil volumes to the Dakota Access Pipeline (“DAPL”) and to rail transportation infrastructure.  A company vehicle will be provided for travel during work hours.  Qualified candidates must have at least one year of professional pipeline maintenance experience in the oil and gas industry and must have performed routine and corrective maintenance on pipeline valves and pump station equipment.

Work Schedule:  Works a straight day shift with possibility of working some weekends and rotating days off. 

Starting Pay: Negotiable

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Operate pumps and associated equipment for pipeline operations.
  • Take oil samples and perform routine grind outs to measure sediment and water content and determine quality.
  • Perform tank gauging to measure tank contents and account for product stored and product moved into and out of tanks.
  • Prepare custody transfer tickets, manage tickets and perform month-end closing.
  • Hand gauging field tanks accurately.
  • Perform routine daily maintenance tasks.
  • Operate terminal equipment, such as meter skid and UTV.
  • Work closely with I&E technicians (SCADA and HMI systems).
  • Interpret the plant’s piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) and control schematics.
  • Understand liquid measurement principles, such as (flow metering and water cut).

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Must have at least one year of professional pipeline maintenance experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Must have performed routine and corrective maintenance on pipeline valves and pump station equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Understanding of crude oil measurement, custody transfer, tank gauging and meter proving are a plus.
  • Flow Process control and PLC knowledge are a plus.
  • Must have, or be able to acquire, Operator Qualification (OQ) Certification for valve and pump station maintenance and repair per DOT requirements for pipeline operators.
  • Must have or become trained in OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Standard and be able to perform spill response duties, if required.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and exceptional oral and written communication skills. Self-motivated and capable of working effectively with little supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize daily work schedules depending on operational requirements.
  • Ability to perform well in a team environment with other operations and staff personnel.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, with the ability to respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective and the ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to effectively work with minimum supervision.
  • Solid computer skills to include Microsoft Office software.

Physical/Working Conditions:

  • Must have the ability to speak, write, read, hear and have good vision.
  • Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold.
  • Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction and pass any medical examination associated with the use of said PPE.
  • The physical requirements include the following: Lift 60 pounds floor to waist, push and pull 30 pounds horizontally, carry 20 pounds while walking, climb stairs, stand 8-12 hours per day, climb ladders, extend arms through normal range of motion while standing and squatting.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
